We have the pleasure to announce the successful completion of the University of the Aegean Summer School "Training in Landscape Character Assessment Methods and Tools”, organized by the Department of Geography, on the 7th to the 12th of September 2015, on the Campus of the University of the Aegean and in the village of Sigri, on Lesvos Island, Greece.
The Summer School comprised of a combination of lectures, student assignments and in-class presentations, interactive workshops, fieldtrips and a field atelier, focusing on landscape character assessment, analysis and mapping. The course was taught in English, by acclaimed landscape experts and involved participants from Europe and the Eastern Mediterranean region.
The course’s thematic focus areas of multidisciplinary interest were as follows:
Theme A. Τools for landscape analysis, evaluation and mapping
Theme B. Risk assessment model implementation
Theme C. Development of participatory governance and management practices for landscape as a public good
The principal aim of the course was to train students, educators, professionals and landscape scientists, in methodologies of landscape character assessment (LCA), as a tool for effective protection and management of natural and cultural heritage, with an emphasis on the landscapes of Eastern Mediterranean region.
